Guillem Farres Back on The Box with Second Overall in Italy
Triumph Factory Racing’s Guillem Farres has delivered another overall podium result with second at the MXGP of Trentino in Italy. Demonstrating exceptional speed all weekend long around the Pietramurata circuit, Farres finished third in the opening moto before placing second in race two. For teammate Camden McLellan, it was a tough Grand Prix, with the South African placing 10th on the day.
After a frustrating Grand Prix last time out in Sardegna, Farres was back on form in Italy. Throughout the weekend at Pietramurata, he was never outside the top three in any session, underlining his speed and consistency aboard his TF 250-X.
An impressive start in the opening moto saw Farres run fourth initially before moving into third by the end of lap one. For the entire race, the Spaniard kept the leaders in sight but was unable to make a pass.
In race two, Guillem was forced to fight hard after not executing the best of starts. From outside the top 10, he soon worked his way up the leaderboard and, by mid-race, was up to second. By this time, race leader Sacha Coenen was just out of reach, so Farres settled for a strong second in the moto to secure second overall. The podium finish marks Guillem’s third podium appearance of the season so far and moves him up to third in the series standings.
The Pietramurata circuit is the venue where McLellan secured his and Triumph’s debut MX2 race win last year, so spirits were high ahead of the Grand Prix. However, during the qualifying race he fell and ultimately finished 24th, which meant a poor gate pick for the Grand Prix races. In both motos, he was buried in the pack after each start and fought his way through to finish eighth in race one and 11th in race two. As a result, he placed 10th overall and slips to fifth in the championship.
Following a mixed weekend of racing, the team will now take advantage of a short break in the calendar before returning to action at the MXGP of France on May 23-24.
Guillem Farres
“It’s been a good GP for me. I had a decent start in the first moto and moved from fifth to third pretty quickly. I felt like my speed was better than the two riders in front, but I couldn’t make any more passes. My start in race two was terrible and I was outside the top 10. I then had to work super hard for the whole moto and got into second. Again, my speed was good, so it’s frustrating about my start in that one.”
Camden McLellan
“A pretty tough weekend for me, especially on Sunday. I had to come from way back in both motos and it wasn’t easy at all. Not the best of days results-wise, but I felt good and strong on the bike. We now have four weeks off, so the goal is to recover fully, get the body feeling good, and then come back stronger in France.”
Vincent Bereni – Triumph Factory Racing Team Manager
“Round five was a tough weekend for the team, with changing conditions and an extremely rough track on Saturday that played a big role in the results. Guillem delivered a strong performance to finish second overall, while Camden was running in sixth before a crash left him sore and led to a difficult qualifying in 24th. From there, his weekend became tough, and he finished 10th overall. Now the focus is on helping him reset physically and mentally so he can return to the pace he showed in the opening rounds. For Guillem, it was the perfect result after a disappointing GP last time out. He was consistently inside the top three all weekend, and with a third and a second, secured another podium for the team, our fourth in five rounds. The result also moves Guillem up to third in the championship heading into the break. Over the next four weeks, the aim is to recover, rebuild, and come back even stronger.”
